LAXART

Fund: $20,000

LAXART is a nonprofit visual art space that promotes developments in contemporary culture through exhibitions, publications and public programs. Founded in 2005 as a platform for emerging and under-recognized talent, LAXART has expanded its mission to encompass thematic exhibitions that engage with key issues of our time and all their inherent contradictions. Through a range of offerings, LAXART contextualizes contemporary art both socially and art historically. Producing new work is central to LAXART’s mission. Not only are commissions the lifeblood of the field of contemporary art, but they are also crucial to the continued growth and development of their core community of artists, regardless of where they fall on the career spectrum. LAXART has commissioned artists young and old, some new and others already noteworthy. LAXART advances careers by championing experimentation and risk-taking, and is committed to presenting diverse voices, especially those of BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and intergenerational artists. LAXART seeks to elevate practices that both further an artist’s concerns or challenges them to address the specificities of a given context.
