Pieter Performance Space

Founded in 2009, Pieter stimulates experimentation in dance and performance, making it available to all regardless of ability to pay. Pieter provides a platform for local, national and international artists to explore their distinct and overlapping aesthetics and interests, where they can build their LA audiences. Their performances, residencies, workshops, classes and subsidized rehearsal space nourish artists and support the growth of Los Angeles’s creative community. Until August 2020, Pieter operated a 2000-square-foot community arts space in Lincoln Heights. Since March 2020, Pieter has offered extensive online programming that has recently expanded to include in-person programming at partnering spaces such as El Sereno Community Garden and The Box gallery, while looking for their next brick and mortar home. Pieter’s former space featured a free boutique and they accept non-monetary donations at events; in these ways, Pieter implements their commitment to reciprocity, generosity and a vision for a non-hierarchical art space. Pieter believes dance is and should be for everyone.
