Armory Center for the Arts
Fund: $24,000
The mission of Armory Center for the Arts is to nurture its community and young people by creating, learning, and presenting art to advance equity and social justice. Three themes that have been constant throughout the Armory’s history: the exhibition of professional artists, its engagement as an educational body, and leadership in responding to the artistic needs of overlooked and underserved members of the community. The educational philosophy and content of Armory programs continue to be based on the role of the artist as an educator. Its programming is unique in that all Armory educational programs are designed and led by Teaching Artists who have active creative practices. Armory educational programs exist in close dialogue with their exhibitions, which emphasize contemporary artists whose work is socially relevant and often BIPOC-centered.
