CalArts REDCAT
Fund: $45,000
CalArts REDCAT will present a performance of a newly commissioned project with Guadalupe Maravilla in conjunction with a companion solo exhibition in fall 2025. This commissioned performance from Maravilla will be the capstone to his performance series (pieces OG of Undocumented Children, 2018; Walk on Water, 2019; and Disease Thrower, 2020) contending with his history escaping the Civil War in El Salvador and traveling to the United States as an unaccompanied minor, his subsequent cancer diagnosis, and his commitment to healing practices. Maravilla will collaborate with members of the Central American diaspora in Los Angeles to craft an interdisciplinary performance that combines text, song, music, procession, and craft, including costume and sculpture/set design.
