Profondeurs Vertes is the title of a three-channel video installation produced by Mike Kelley for the Louvre, Paris, in 2006. The music on this CD functions as the soundtrack music for the three videos. Profondeur Vertes begins with a Traditional Sea Shanty complete with waves, creaking timbers, and seagulls, moving into an airy Romantic-era piano and harp piece based on Charles Tomlinson Griffes’ Veil of Dreams which then transitions into an orchestral rendition of the Shark Attack from John Singleton Copley’s painting Watson and the Shark; more shanties follow and a rendition of Lautréamont’s Maldoror recited in French completes the cycle of Kelley’s thought.
