Los Angeles Poverty Department’s mission is to connect the experiences of people living in poverty to the sociopolitical forces that shape their lives and communities. This is achieved through multidisciplinary artworks that interweave performances, installations, exhibitions, public conversations, and archival documentation—all developed, produced, and presented collaboratively with Skid Row community members to address their emerging concerns. The Skid Row community is their primary audience–most of its 14,000 residents live below the poverty line.
